The prefect book for everything GoPro. The author really explains things clearly and the book is very well organized. I highly recommend this book.

I was surprised to learn all I didn't know. This book certainly speeded up my learning curve.

You are spending $300 - $400 to buy this piece of equipment, don't you think it would be a good idea to learn how to use it?
I admit it, I do actually read the user manuals for nearly everything I buy. Although some make absolutely no sense at all because they were not written by someone with English as their primary language, I do learn a lot from the majority of them. However, I learn a great deal more from products covered by the "For Dummies" series of books, and I have several of them. I spend a lot of time with photography, both still and video, and I shoot with the goal of getting the best images I possibly can. I don't have the most expensive of everything, nor do I necessarily think I need it in order to get the image quality I want. What I most need to know is what can my equipment do, and how do I use it all to get the best images. After recently buying a new GoPro, my second one, I decided I needed to buy "GoPro Cameras for Dummies."
I have wasted at least a couple of hours of video with my first GoPro because I was doing something much less effectively than I could have, or not using a feature I didn't even previously know was there . So for me, It all gets down to not knowing what I don't know. If you don't know something is there to use, the odds are pretty close to 100% you won't use it. Within just a few minutes of starting to read this book, I learned two things I didn't previously know. It took another half hour or so before the next very useful tip popped up, but then the useful information kept coming quickly, as more and more features were described and explained. You find tips on wearing the camera on your head. They even briefly point out, something you will learn quickly on your own after you do it, which is, the reaction you get while wearing it in a crowd. Yes the people notice you. If you want to stand out in a crowd, wear a GoPro on your forehead. It's a little unnerving at times.
Many many of the things they point out are things you would eventually learn just by going out and using the camera. But what a waste of time as I mentioned. I missed two, unable to replace, scenes while shooting in Dubai that I wouldn't have if I'd known about how the camera would react beforehand, which is one of the best uses for reading this book. Learning from experience is great, but gaining the experience after learning is a real timesaver.
I enjoyed the book. Learned a great deal, and now am shooting much better GoPro videos.

Helps users get the most of their GoPro experience

This "For Dummies" book regarding the use and enjoyment of the GoPro camera is a great starting point for those who are new to the GoPro camera line, are considering buying a GoPro camera, and for intermediate GoPro users who want to fine-tune their use of their camera and take their videography to the next level by maximizing their understanding of its capabilities.
While you can get a lot of information about the use of GoPro cameras on the company's website (where you can download a free PDF for using your specific model of GoPro and use Support articles) and on YouTube by watching 'how to' videos, this book does provide a whole lot of information and its presented in a way that can be read cover to cover or as needed.
As expected this book has technical information in addition to tips on using the GoPro cameras. It addresses setting up and mounting the GoPro camera, as well as working with the GoPro apps. Step-by-step instructions for some things (like app use) are helpful and clearly written.
Warnings, hints and tips are found throughout the book and clearly marked as such. This is the case with all "For Dummies" books, and it's part of what makes them so helpful and popular.
I liked that this book is up to date. The HERO5 which I purchased as well as KARMA (an expensive, but very cool mount for the GoPro cameras...) are both in the book. Protune controls are discussed and tips for different modes of use (like time-lapse at night) are addressed. Framing shots and capturing video that is the best it can be in all different kinds of scenarios - moviemaking and using light properly to get great results - are subjects that make this book not just for newbies!
A chapter on post-production (addressing both Mac and Windows users) I found very helpful as it gave me a quick point of reference for tweaking the videos and exporting to social media.
I'm really happy I have this book. It's got great information and tips that will help me to gain confidence in trying new techniques and grow as a GoPro user. I recommend it for new GoPro owners and beginning to advanced-intermediate users who just want to be better at using their cam by fully immersing themselves in all the camera can do.
