About the Author
Lincoln Kerney was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. He is a graduate of the Portsmouth Abbey School and earned a BA in journalism at Texas Christian University. He lived in Fort Worth and New York City before returning to Princeton for the better part of his adult life. Kerney currently lives in Boca Grande, Florida, and Quechee, Vermont.

Your guide for climbing to the top

Lincoln Kerney was born to wealth and social standing but despite growing up with the king, the king's kids, and the king's entourage Linc came away . . . self-aware and more than a bit unimpressed by it all. So we've been given "The Art of Social Climbing." And we're the better for it.
Lincoln stirs together empathy, wonderful observation skills, and bits of sociology AND anthropology as he creates what at times reads almost like a DIY guide. But like the journalist he was trained to be, Lincoln simply sees and "reports" in a style that is gimlet-eyed without resorting to sarcasm or hurtfulness. Lincoln guides us to both West Egg AND East Egg and we know why we are there, what we are trying to do, how to go about doing it, and what is expected of us.
"The Art of Social Climbing" can be read simultaneously on two levels -- as a guide that provides truly helpful insights into the practical side of social climbing and/or as a droll commentary on a peculiar human pastime. This little book succeeds on both levels and deserves some day to rank as an American classic.
